WILLS IN HUNTERDON COUNTY, NEW JERSEY

Just to clarify for everyone interested in Hunterdon County, the WILLS and all other records generated by the legal system when a person deceases are kept in the Surrogates Office in the new Court House on the corner of Park Avenue and Capner Street in Flemington. The index books list all the documents for each person who so dies - all on the same line. Thus it is quite easy to go to these indexes, look up your persons name and write down the various documents so filed. Almost all of the records are kept in the same room as the indexes and once you learn the system (document names have changed over the years), it is very easy to find what your are looking for.

It does cost a bundle to get a copy of the records. If you want, you may sit there and transcribe the records for free. If you live at a distance, you will have to write and pay the piper!

Regards, MrBill
