Hello Bill,
Thank you for the response to my query in regards to my Smith / Case
ancestors. I did make a mistake concerning the iron gates, I should have
said that Mahlon made the gates to the county jail. I based this
statement on what was told me by my great Aunt Bertha Bryan Cox ( 1876 -
1965 ), although she was very old at the time of our conversation. "Our
Mahlon" who was her great grandfather died in 1889 when she was 13. His
home according to an old family letter was right behind his grave in
Flemington Presbyterian Cemetery. The home at 5 Hopewell Ave matches
this description as did the old barn that recently fell down. This is
very interesting as I'm sure that our Mahlon did not live in the Doric
house. I wonder if he worked for him as a blacksmith?
I do have the CD you produced and will look up the Mahlon Smith
entries. Thank you again, Paula
