Richard,
Thank you for your input concerning Mahlon SMITH(1793-1889). I did
not have the 1818 agreement, thanks it's very interesting and should
provide some new leads.
I have copies of family Bibles that show Mahlon SMITH as marrying
Phebe DILTS. She is the daughter of William DILTS (28 Feb 1754- 20 Oct
1848, Pvt Continental Line, Rev War, buried Flemington Presbyterian,
married to Sarah Anna JOLLY). Mahloh and Phebe had 12 children
including a Jacob, Isaac, and John(F.L. or F.T) His death certificate
stated he was a blacksmith by trade.
I believe the Ann SMITH on the 1850 census is Mahlon's mother Ann
CASE as there is an Ann Smith buried next to Mahlon and Ann CASE is
listed as Mahlon's mother on his death certificate.
Deborah Atkinson SMITH (daughter of Mahlon and Phebe) married Peter
J Smith (not related, he was a carpenter from around Reading and had
brothers Henry and George). Their son Mahlon D SMITH married Sarah H
BRYAN.
If anyone is interested I have lists of children from the above
marriages. I hope this helps untangle some of these Mahlons. Paula
