I have several ancestors who lived and died in Hopewell, Hunterdon/Mercer,
New Jersey in the 1830-1850 time period.

A researcher checked the state archieves for the vital and property
records. She reported that the records for that time period were not sent to
the state, but kept locally. However in 1962, they were distroyed in a
"fire".

My guestion is, were any copies made of these records before the "fire" ?
And if so, who would I contact ?
