In reference to the information presented below, I am seeking evidence to
confirm or refute the following theories:

1) Sarah "Sally" (SMITH) WILLIAMSON was the dau. of Robert SMITH.
2) Robert SMITH was the grandson of Jasper SMITH.

Based on naming patterns, I have long theorized that my ancestor, Sarah
"Sally" (SMITH) WILLIAMSON was the daughter of a Robert SMITH. Today, using
google.com, it looks like I may have finally found what I've been seeking in
the archives of NJHUNTER-L...

Subject: [NJHUNTER] Robert Smith (d. 1813) of Bethlehem Twp., Hunterdon Co.

Greetings,

I'm working on my tough Smith line from Bethlehem Twp. circa 1900 and
earlier. Is anyone else working on this family? This Robert Smith who died
in 1813 may be a descendant (likely grandson) of Jasper Smith (d. circa
1754), the early judge of Maidenhead Twp., but proof is lacking.

I've checked the obvious records (census, Chambers, Snell, Calendar of
Wills,
etc.). If someone has Jasper Smith and His Descendants and Smith Family of
Lawrenceville and Trenton both by James A. Murray, perhaps this line is
listed there. Robert is not listed as a descendant of Jasper Smith of
Maidenhead Twp. in The Smith Family of Bedford, N.Y. and Maidenhead, N.J. by
Lewis D. Cook.

I'm open to all inputs. Thanks!

Regrettably, an email to Glenn came back as undeliverable. From the
information that he provided, it seems quite likely that Sally Smith, dau.
of Robert & Jemima (-----) SMITH of Bethlehem Township, is identical with
the following:

5. Abraham Williamson (John, Peter, ...), was born in New Jersey
(Census Records), probably in Bethlehem Township, Hunterdon County
(Census Records) on 2 April 1791 (Williamson Family Bible Records,
hereinafter WBRs); born on 2 July [sic, April] 1791 (JCWFR); he
died in the Town of Greenwood, Steuben County, New York on 3
December 1874 (WBRs) "Aged 83 yrs 8 Mo. & 1 Day" (tombstone).
Abraham was married, probably in (then Sussex, now) Warren or
Hunterdon County, New Jersey, on 15 February 1813 (WBRs) to Sarah
Smith. Sarah was born in New Jersey (Census Records) on 8 June
1795 (WBRs); she died in Greenwood, New York on 6 June 1849 (WBRs).
A small number of vital records survive for the Town of Greenwood
prior to the implementation of civil registration by New York State
in 1880. Sally Williamson, age 52, housekeeper, died of a chronic
disease on 6 June 1849; Sally is a common nickname for Sarah.

Children (WBRs):

i. Lucy, b. [NJ] 31 Dec 1813.
ii. Charity, b. [NJ] 11 Aug 1815; named after her paternal
grandmother, Charity (RICHEY) WILLIAMSON.
iii. Robert, b. [NJ] 5 Sep 1817; [named after his maternal
grandfather Robert SMITH].
6. iv. John, b. NJ 14 Sep 1819; named after his paternal
grandfather, John WILLIAMSON.
v. Chester, b. 6 Nov 1823.
vi. Jemima, b. 1 Nov 1825; [named after maternal grandmother,
Jemima (-----) SMITH]
vii. Charles, b. Ulysses, Tompkins Co., NY 6 July 1827.
viii. Elias, b. Greenwood, NY 6 June 1831 (obituary).
ix. William, b. 2 May 1833.
x. Daniel, b. NY 25 July 1839.

In this case, the maternal grandfather, Robert SMITH, was honored before the
paternal grandfather, John WILLIAMSON, because the former predeceased the
latter. I don't know who the eldest dau. Lucy was named after but perhaps
her name honors an otherwise unknown aunt who died young.

Any further information on the ancestors and descendants of Robert and
Jemima (-----) SMITH would be greatly appreciated, especially the full text
of his will or other documents pertaining to the probation thereof that
might identify his daughter Sally as the wife of Abraham WILLIAMSON. If my
theory is correct, Sarah "Sally" SMITH married Abraham WILLIAMSON after
Robert SMITH made his will but before it was proved, per the dates provided
above.
