I am searching for parents/siblings of Mary YOUNG b. circa 1790's d. ?
In 1816 she married Peter MYERS/MIRES. Marriage was performed by the
Pastor of the Baptist Church on Main Street in Flemington, NJ. Peter
and Mary are buried there but headstones are broken/unreadable BUT
footstones are clearly marked P.(eter) M.(yers) and M.(ary) M.(yers ne
YOUNG). One of their son's is buried next to his parents.
Peter MYERS tombstone inscription has been located at the Alexander
Library, Rutgers University in New Brunswick and indicates he died in
Novemer 1870, aged 77 years (calculated birth date 1793). His wife's
birth date is a "guesstimate" based on when he was born.
Research reveals that this Peter MYERS was the son of a Simon MYERS who
left land in 1814 in Hunterdon County, one of his adjoining neighbors
was a Peter MYERS. (Could he be Mary's father?). Two of Simon MYERS'
children married people named YOUNG. One of his daughter's was married
to a Samuel YOUNG that I would also like to identify.
Any help with "sorting out" the early YOUNG families would be
appreciated. Last Monday I ordered the will of John YOUNG and asked for
a search for the will of a Peter W. YOUNG who apparently died in 1823
based on an item in the Hunterdon Gazette which advertised his land for
sale.
I "hope" I am getting close to making this YOUNG family connection to my
MYERS line. Hannah MYERS, daughter of Peter MYERS and Mary YOUNG
married Charles TITUS. This couple is buried at the Old Rock Church
near the Hunterdon/Mercer County line. I then descend through my great
grandmother Christianna TITUS (named for her maiden Aunt Christianna
MYERS) who married John Henry HANN. This couple is buried at the
Highlands Cemetery in Hopewell Borough, Mercer County, NJ.
I look forward to corresponding with anyone who has knowledge of the
"early" YOUNG/JUNG families of southern Hunterdon Co., NJ.
Regards,
Bill Morrow in Houston, TX (native of NJ)
