Thanks Rick,
Since this is the Hunterdon list, I might as well give the history of the
Silverthorne's who lived at the place you describe at High Bridge.
My ancestor, William Silverthorn, came to High Bridge about 1746 after the
death of his father Oliver at Bethlehem Twp in that year. He had inherited
his father's 250 acre plantation, which I assume gave him great means to
build a settlement that would eventually be called "Silverthorn". Most of
the homes and buildings were made from stone. In about 1750 he built the
first school in the area and it was called Silverthorn District 60. I read
an article somewhere that none of the original houses are standing today,
but one of them (also made from stone) that was built there in 1838 by a
Moses Waters and at some point was owned by a Helen Arnott, was still there
a few decades ago.
William lost his first wife in 1750 after settling at High Bridge, and he
remarried abt 1779 to a widow Mary Young. She survived him when he died in
1795. She lived past 1820 shen she was living at Tinicum in Bucks Co PA,
with her son Thomas. Thomas Silverthorn and wife Rachel took over the home
farm for a time before they moved to Tinicum. I suspect the original
property ended up in the hands of a Robert Little (probably relation to
Thomas' brother-in-law John Little who married his sister Sarah). Thomas
and Rachel had many children, and the family was primarily based at
Alexandria in Hunterdon County in later years.
