All,

I read with sadness in today's Hunterdon County Democrat of the
passing of Joyce Leaver Carraway. She was a fellow list member here.
I frequently corresponded with her regarding genealogy and local
history via email. Joyce is related to the well-known Dr. Morris
Hampton Leaver, M. D., D. D. S of Quakertown in Franklin Township.
Joyce was kind enough to help me with my Hunterdon County website by
providing me with the listing of plot owners / interments of the
Locust Grove Cemetery and Quaker Burial Ground. She will be greatly
missed.

The following is her obituary:

Fanwood NJ -

Joyce Leaver Carraway died Friday, Sept. 12, 2003 at Genesis Elder
Care's "The Woodlands" in Plainfield. She was 72. Mrs. Carraway was
born in Franklin Township. She lived in Scotch Plains before moving
to Fanwood 20 years ago. She was the tax collector in Fanwood for 14
years before retiring in 1996. Mrs. Carraway was a member of the
Scotch Plains-Fanwood Historical Society and the Winthrop Society.
Her two husbands, Albert Ross, and C. Glenn Carraway; her daughter,
Linda McNally; and a grandson, Kenneth Kelly, all died earlier.

She is survived by four daughters, Coleen DeJesso, and Lisa Burns,
both of Phillipsburg; Cindy Sqashic of Wake Forest, N. C.; and Lori
Ashburner of South Berwick, Maine; two brothers, Arthur Runyon and
Howard Runyon, both of Florida; nine grandchildren; and three
grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Monday at First United Methodist Church
of Scotch Plains. Interment followed in Locust Grove Cemetery in
Quakertown under the direction of the Memorial Funeral Home of
Fanwood. Memorial contributions can be made to the Fanwood Rescue
Squad, 218 Forest Road, Fanwood 07023.
