You won't find a certificate but a one-line entry in the vital records for
a particular
township. Births and deaths were required to be filed with the state
starting in 1848, but marriages were required in NJ starting in 1795. Hope
that the official performing the marriage was not a Justice of the Peace
but
a clergyman. Find his name connected to a church history, as in Snell's
History of Hunterdon and Somerset Counties, N.J. and hope that there is a
baptismal record for the people of the marriage. And sometimes the marriage
record kept by the minister of a church has more information than what he
was required to forward to the township, county and state.
What surnames? Do you know what township? Lean on the list for some
help.
