I have found several records that show that John Jacob and Catherine
(CRATER) WELSCH moved to a farm about 1 1/2 miles northwest of New
Germantown in 1797. It appears that the farm was given to them as a wedding
gift by his father, William WELSCH, Jr. of German Valley. John Jacob (known
generally as Jacob WELSH) died there in 1810 and Catherine raised their
children alone. She died at New Germantown in 1845. The Tewksbury Township
land ownership map from the 1850s doesn't show the Jacob and Catherine WELSH
farm, but maybe someone can tell me where it was located and whether the
farm house still exists.
