There are three references to Mt. Carmel in D'Autrechey's book
Hunterdon County Place Names .
The first reference merely says: See Klinesville.
The second reference says that Mt. Carmel " is in Raritan Township.
This is an elevation of the township in the vicinity of Klinesville, which was
the site of the Point Tavern Barth' w Van Camp.(Snell: 299; Tavern license
1340)"
The third reference says "Mount Carmel Tract."In October 1712 three
tracts of land included in the third Indian purchase of 1703, lying in the
central part of the county and abutting each other, were set off to Thomas
Gardiner, Daniel Cox, and Rachel Higgonson...". This tract, called the Mt. Carmel
tract extended northward from Flemington to westward to within one-half mile of
Quakertown. (Vail)
Under Klinesville, the author says "Raritan Township. This community
is located north of Flemington at the intersection of CR612 and CR 617. The
name derived from Miller Kline who conducted a dry goods and grocery trade here
and also operated a tavern on the site as early as 1831 when the area still
maintained it's early name of "Mt. Carmel". In 1834, Gordon called the area "a
mountain hamlet" containing a tavern, and 4-5 dwellings and a store.(gg:186,
Beers:57; Dockets 04364 & 04063; Snell: 307; RR2: 303; RR3:158, 206)

Hope this helps. If you need me to write out the References in full, let me
know.
