Kay:
Thank you for your very helpful responses to my original posting. It seems
quite likely that the Charles COX from whom Daniel GRIGGS purchased his
Mount Carmel property was an heir of Daniel COXE.
Listers:
Any information on the COX/COXE family to confirm or refute this speculation
would be appreciated and, in particular, I would like to know when Daniel
GRIGGS bought the Mount Carmel property from Charles COX. Originally from
Gravesend, Kings Co. NY, he resided in Somerset Co. NJ for some time before
settling on a "plantation" in Amwell Township.

I have a correction to my earlier letter.
Where I wrote that the tract of land was "set off to Thomas Gardiner,
Daniel
Cox and Rachel Higgenson", it really read that the "tract of land was set
off to Thomas Gardiner, Daniel Coxe and Rachel Hutchinson ." Sorry for the
mistake---my husband was reading the passage to me as I typed it and he
murdered
the name.
Also please note that Raritan Township which is where Snell and the
others locate it was once part of Amwell Township. Amwell was once a huge
township that later was divided into several townships including East and
West
Amwell, Kingwood and Raritan.
