There were definitely a bunch of people from Hunterdon Co. NJ who went to
Hampshire Co. VA(WV) in the mid to late 1700s including my ancestor John
Parke I from Hopewell area (son of Dr. Roger Parke) and his brother-in
law Thomas Smith (my ancestor is his sister Sarah Smith - both children
of Andrew Smith of Hopewell) and Bartholomew Anderson, brother of my
ancestor Hannah Anderson who married Richard Phillips, both children of
Cornelius Anderson of Hopewell area as well). These 3 fled after the
"Coxe" incident in which they protested paying twice for their land
around 1735 - many others followed them in the years after this.
