Land bounty varies from state to state depending on availability during the
time. Some states did not have extra land to give away, and other states
were
looking for expansion and bounties was one of the solutions. There were
several Virginia residents receiving land in west Virginia and West
Virginia. In
several cases, they did not have to serve in the Virginia Army or militia to
get that bounty. But they lived in Virginia at the time. Also, I've seen
where
land was given in exchange for final payment of military service. The
Library of Virginia http://www.lva.lib.va.us/ has on line copies of many
land
bounty documents.
