Hi, folks...

Today I had one of those truly weird genealogical coincidences happen.

Mind you, I'm living near Buffalo, NY, 400 miles from NJ, and over 100 miles
from Seneca Lake, NY.

A woman whose desk is 6 feet from mine had with her the title search to her
property on Seneca Lake, NY. I asked if I could look at it, since old
documents are often a fun read.

One of the previous owners of the land on which the cottage sits was a man
named Garret Van Sickle. He owned the property from 1858 until his death in
1898. I've typed the name Van Sickle (or Van Syckle) many times for my web
site, so I did a search...and I found Garret! He was originally from
Baptistown, and he's on the "Recollections of Baptistown" page at
http://raub-and-more.com/baptown/baptown8.html. This page says, "Garret
Vansyckle born Aug 5, 1811. He married Sarah J. Smith Dec 22, 1836. Garret
is still living on his farm at Seneca Co., N.Y. They had 6 children: Sarah
C., Daniel McP., Mary J., John P., Lydia and George W." At the time of his
death, all 6 of these children were still living, and the married names of
his daughters matched those on the Baptistown page!

There are several pages in the title search about Garret Van Sickle; if
anyone is interested in this line, please email me and I'll be happy to
share.
