Hello list,
My RUNYAN ancestors migrated from Hunterdon County (Kingwood) to the Spruce Run Valley in what is now Columbia County, PA. The village there is called "Jerseytown", so-named because many of the early settlers there were from New Jersey.
The Runyan's arrived around 1796 and were preceded by the following New Jersey families:
FUNSTON
BARBER
PEGG
WHITMOYER
BILLHIME
WELLIVER
BRUGLER
WATSON
HODGE
DEMOTT
SCHUYLER
Other families settling there in the late 1700's include:
LAIRD
SMITH
KITCHEN/KETCHUM
MCCOLLUM
Early families whose origins are unclear to me include SWISHER (probably VA) and EVES.
Fuller Runyan
Harrisburg, PA

My Hunterdon ancestors (Lewis Gordon family) migrated to Mason Co., KY in
about 1798. I think there were a number of NJ families that went about that
time, including some Stouts that I know of. It was interesting to me that
the local area where my ancestor lived was (and still is) known as "Jersey
Ridge" -- probably some connection there with the naming, but its history is
long since lost.
