I figure that I will post the last of what I have now, here are the last two articles in my possession. There are more in the series, but I do not have them. So if you are a part of Justice John's line, and you haven't seen your ancestors listed, you may want to investigate further with these articles somehow.



By the way, these two issues contain my line: Edward G. Phillips and his son Jonathan Phillips. I have added information in brackets [ ] when the information was not complete or I knew there was an error.

Edward Gaines Phillips married, for second wife, Mrs. Adeline Sine, daughter of George Gano. [Note from transcriber: This is my line and Adeline Sine was the daughter of Charles Gano and Salome Mettler. Her first husband was John Sine (b. abt. 1820, d. bet. 1865 and 1869. Adeline Gano and John Sine married 11/5/1845.] She was born July 20, 1840 [Note from transcriber, year is 1828 per death certificate.], d. Apr. 8, [Note from transcriber, Death certificate and obituary note death is Nov. 29, 1915. It appears that the death date here was confused with number 208 below.] and buried at Frenchtown. They had:

208, Richard Holcombe Phillips, b. Jan. 20, 1840, at Mt. Airy, worked at reconstruction of railroads in Virginia at about end of Rebellion. Was a school teacher in Hunterdon and Somerset Co. for almost all of his adult life; died suddenly April 8,1889, at Ringoes, N.J. [Note from transcriber: This is the father of the author of this article, yet the death year is wrong, should read 1899.], buried at Union Cemetery, Ringoes, stone. He married Nov. 18, 1868 Mary Stryker, b. July 15, 1847, at the Lord Sterling Mansion in Basking Ridge, N.J., d. 2:20 a.m., Mar. 19, 1928, at her daughter Susans, in Metuchen, of pneumonia, and buried in Union Cemetery, Ringoes, N.J. She was daughter of Josiah Stryker and wife, Marie Van Deripe, and a descendent of the old families of Strykers, Van Deripe, Barcalows, Beekman, Vegthe, Gano, and Van Dyke. They had:



219, Susan M. Fillips, principal of the public school at Stelton, N.J., entered the teaching profession at the age of 17. She has never married. She early became interested in simplified spelling and for many years devoted all of her leisure to assisting Dr. C.W. Larison of Ringoes, N.J., in the work of exemplifying its advantages. During this period she and her brother Charles adopted the spelling Fillips for the family name which they have used ever since.

220, Viola Phillips, b. Sept. 10, 1871, married June 8, 1892, Andrew Hinkston Hillier, and has one child, Andrew Jr., who married and has a son Andrew, 3rd.

221, Charles Stryker Fillips, b. Mar. 26, 1873, at Harlingen, N.J., (compiler of this article) mason by trade, married July 4, 1900, Louise C. Roy daughter of Joseph Northrup Roy (See Northrup Genealogy and Memoirs of Casper Schaeffer) and wife Sarah Elizabeth Steiner, daughter of Charles Steiner, and wife Eliizabeth Alexander. They have one daughter Sara Marie Fillips, born Jersey City, a school teacher at Stelton, N.J. (1930).

223, George Irving Phillips, b. Sept. 1, 1866, d. Feb. 15, 1894.

229, George W. Fauss, b. Apr. 7, 1867, married Annie Elizabeth Layman (nee Beirne) b. Kilmore, County Roscommon, Irelan, Apr. 7, 1870, no children. They live at 161 East 17th St., Portland, Ore.

230, Emma Leah Fauss, b. Jan. 26, 1870, married George Warrick, and have children.

231, Edward Phillips Fauss, b. Nov. 4, 1871, married Kate Johnson.

232, Susan Phillips Fauss, b. Apr. 8, 1873, married Henry Burkett.

233, Deliah Phillips Fauss, b. Oct. 1, 1875, d. May 28, 1877.

234, Hannah H. Fauss, b. Feb. 21, 1880, d. 1930, married a Drake.

210, Oliver H. Phillips, b. Apr. 5, 1844. At the Williamson mill near Ringoes, learned harness making with Smith of Reaville. Joined First Presbyterian Church of Amwell, Nov. 14, 1863. Removed to Trenton and was in clothing business for some years. D. Sept. 12, 1928, at his nieces, Olive, in Lambertville, N.J. Buried at Riverview Cemetery, Trenton, N.J. Maried Kate E. Mount, April 23, 1885. She was buried at Riverview Cemetery, Trenton, N.J. and has a stone. They had no issue.



211, Samuel Carlisle Phillips, b. Jan. 25, 1846, d. 7:40 p.m., Feb. 13, 1927, at Lambertville, N.J., married Amy T. Housel, b. Feb. 19, 1847, d. Aug. 9, 1917; both buried at Riverview Cemetery, Lambertville, N.J. They had:

237, Charles C. Phillips.

238, Olive Phillips, an efficient post office worker for many years at Lambertville, N.J.

240, Eugene Phillips, lives in Trenton, married Bessie Newman, and has William, Eugene and Elizabeth.

Nov. 12, 1919, at Jersey City, married Margaret Mueller and had a daughter, Miriam Jane Perrine, married in 1930 to Jack Kerns, of North Carolina. Charles Perrine was buried at Riverview Cemetery, Lambertville, N.J. Has a stone.



217, Jonathan Phillips, married Emma Higgins. They had:

247, Milton, married and has children (1932) [Transcribers Note: Milton Phillips, b. Jan 1897; d. Oct. 1964. Children are Dorothy May Phillips (5/27/1916-6/1/1916); Charles Phillips, b.1917; Milton Phillips, b. 1919; and Raymond Phillips, b. 1921. These children were with first wife Rose Woody, daughter of Charles Woody and Emma Wade. Rose Woody, b. 11/18/1896, d. 9/19/1922. Second wife to Milton Phillips is Edna Sauer. No issue believed from this second marriage.]

218, Henry M. Phillips, married and lived in Philadelphia. No children. Buried Frenchtown, N.J.



177, Richard Holcombe Phillips, b. Dec. 26, 1817, d. May 10, 1867, married in 1849, Elizabeth Thrope, b. 1824, in Yorkshire, England, d. Nov. 11, 1875. Buried in Shepler Cemetery, Swanton Township, Lucas County, Ohio. He was a boatman on the Ohio Canal, 1847 till 1850; 1850 till 1857, a boatman on the Wabash Canal, in Indiana. Died at Hibbard, Ind., buried there. They had two children:

249, Wilbur Phillips, b. at Atica, Ind. Mar. 25, 1850, d. 1894 in Hibbard, Ind., married and had:

251, Ida Phillips, married twice, lived in Michigan City, Ind., 1913; afterward in South Bend, Ind.

252, A son Phillips, never located.



250, William Shanley Phillips, b. Dec. 10, 1853 at Atica, Ind., d. Dec. 14, 1918 at Bradner, Ohio, married Dec. 31, 1885, Barbara Deardoff, of Bucyrus, Ohio. She died August 10, 1919, at Bradner. No children.



178, Hannah Phillips, b. Aug. 31, 1820, married Stewart Carlisle, in Philadelphia, moved to St. Louis, left there April 23, 1849, for California. She died in Oakland, Calif., April 2, 1893. They had:



253, Samuel Phillips Carlisle, died.

254, Jesse Carlisle, died in 1877.

255, Virginia Anne Carlisle, married first Jesse Stewart, of Sacramento, and second, M.L. Cheney, both died in 1914. She lived in Oakland, Cal.

256, Mary E. Carlisle, married John E. Youngberg, living in Oakland, 1914. Five children, Fred, Charles, Chester, Frank and Elliot. All married but Elliot (1914).

257, George W. Carlisle, married, four children. In 1914 living in Flornin, Cal. Children, Fred, George, Renna, and Harvey.

258, Lillie Carlisle, married Fred E. Hersey. Three children, Merrick, Olivetto and Bessie, all single in 1914.

259, Americana De Campo Carlisle, married George N. Scott. She lived at 1723 Central Ave., Alameda, Calif. (1914). Four children Maud, Bert, Rever, Leland, all married (1914).



180, Mary Phillips, b. Mar. 18, 1824, d. May 12, 1874, married Feb. 25, 1847, by Campfield, Servis Shepperd. No Children. Lived near Rocks M.E. Church, West Amwell township, N.J.



181, Frederick Smith Phillips, b. March 30, 1826, d. 1900, buried in Mulvane, Kansas, married Caroline Johnson, daughter of Asher. She died about 1902, at Belle Plains, Kansas. They both have stones. They had:



260, Hannah Phillips, married Chas. Roche, two infant children dead.

261, Augusta Phillips, b. 1851, d. April 3, 1925, married John Watson, and had Carrie and James.
