I'm not sure whom you are addressing. I am a descendant of Andrew
Smith of Hopewell also but not through his son Thomas but through his
daughter Sarah who married John Parke and fled to Frederick Co. VA which
became Hampshire Co. VA and then WV along with her brother Thomas Smith
and brother-in-law Bartholemew Anderson after the "Coxe incident" when
they burned their property rather than pay for it twice.
There is some false information floating around on the internet about
Sarah by the way - she did NOT marry John Fidler - he was mentioned in
Andrew's will because he had been a faithful and loyal scribe for him for
many years. John married someone else - named Sarah - and was having
children etc. during the same time period that Sarah Smith was married to
John Parke having children. Their being married is an impossibility.
Nor did Sarah return to Hopewell Twp, Hunterdon Co. from Hampshire Co. VA
to die in 1770 (which would have made her 105 years old) and be buried in
the Hunt family graveyard - she died shortly after her husband John Parke
was killed by indians in 1757 - we believe about 1759 at age 84 in
Hampshire Co. VA.
A Smith/Pitt Bible has been found and there is a wonderful article
written by Gloria Padach and published in the Rowan Co. Register a few
years back also that indicates that Andrew had a first wife Sarah Fostser
before Olive Pitt and that Sarah was Sarah Foster Smith's child and there
is the possibility as well that Thomas may also have been the only other
of his children to have been born of Sarah Foster. That is not known and
I myself have kept him listed as a child of Olive Pitt. However, Sarah
Smith is not a child of Olive's.
This may all be more than you wanted to know and you may not have been
addressing me either. I do have information on Thomas and wife Rebecca
Anderson and their migration from Hopewell, Hunterdon Co. NJ to Hampshire
Co. VA to Rowan Co. NC (Jersey settlement) and their children that I'd be
happy to share.
