Would you believe we did have a Casper. I think his name was Bill and he lived in Titusville, which is Washington's Crossing. I went to school in Pennington (Hopewell Township), which for you out-of-staters is next to Hopewell and not far from Flemington and Lambertville. We had Wyckoff, Holcombe, Blackwell, Burroughs, Coryell, Ewing, Little, Conover, Sked, Tice and Wagner in my graduating class (1963). Little did I know that I was probably distantly related to lots of those people! I was just suggesting that you might want to look on Google or another search engine and try to locate someone in the Hunterdon County area. They might be a good resource and might even have an old Bible or two in their possession with a wealth of family info. To those of us still here think YOU were the ones who moved away, you know!

By the way, I'm not offering to contact the old alumni as I'm not in touch with all of them and wouldn't want to impose on them on your behalf. Just a suggestion. There is a very large Conover/Snedeker/VanCovenhooven group and I believe they meet locally.

Sharon, your suggestion about looking for family that remained in Hunterdon
County is a great idea which, I'm embarrassed to admit, I had not thought of
I am wondering if any of the CASPER family still lives in Hunterdon County
and, if so, knows anything about our family origins.
Conrad / Conrath Casper arrived in Pa. in October of 1754 aboard the Halifax
Sometime shortly afterwards he moved to Hunterdon County. In the latter
1700's the family moved to Rowan County, North Carolina, exact date unknown.
Conrad was married to Catharina LNU and had sons Peter and Conrad. He had a
daughter named Catharina. The family must have been close to the Muellers in
Hunterdon County, as they are witnesses at Mueller baptisms and some of the
Mueller children are named after members of the Casper family. I have
searched for years trying to determine where in Germany the family was from.
The ship's passenger list gives four regions the passengers came from but
does not break it down by individual. I have searched the LDS Family History
site but can't find anyone that corresponds with what little information I
have on Conrad. So, if there are any CASPER family members that have any
information on our family please, please let me know....thanks !

Subject: Re: [NJHUNTER] MOORE

Hi Marshall,
Yup, he's the guy. My files are posted on rootsweb. They aren't
full/complete or up-to-date as my Yahoo mail doesn't allow me to send files
as large as my genealogy files! But that IS the same Josiah Moore.

Someone on the list said "of course" to my comment that some of the families
remained in Hunterdon County when relatives moved on to VA, OH or other
states. What I meant was that often I will see comments by listers about
their families in states other than NJ and I've been in school with people
from that family! If your family is from this area, you might want to check
local listings for relatives because there's a good possibility that you'll
find some! When I was a little girl (back in the 50s), I played with the boy
who lived in back of me in Pennington. Recently I found that he's still
interested in genealogy and we found that we're distantly related. Of course
if your family was in Hunterdon/Mercer in the early 1700s, anyone else
whose family was also there is probably related to you as the gene pool was
rather shallow! They couldn't marry outside their church "family" without
repercussions so there wasn't a big selection. I'm very familiar with that
screen that!
pops up
on Family Tree Maker that says "the person you've selected as spouse has the
same surname as the one already in the program" or something similar. Many
times cousins married each other or two sisters married two brothers. A
recent Trenton Times article said that they no longer think it's genetically
dangerous for first cousins to marry. Made me feel a little better about my
heritage!!

Anyway, Marshall, yes that is the same Josiah Moore. Thanks for the message,
Cuz!
