Thank you for all the thanks and positive feedback! And thank you for the suggestion of a note explaining the background of the clippings at the start of each e-mail. I will do that.

PLEASE NOTE - The following newspaper clippings are from a collection found after my great Aunt passed away. She unfortunately made no note of what paper they came from or the date. I felt they may still provide important clues for somebody and other listers agreed so I have been posting them regardless.

Califon Boy Killed in Coasting Accident

Burdell SHURTS Dies Instantly When Sled Skids Into Halted Car

Albert HOOVER, Driver, Held

Burdell SHURTS, 18-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur SHURTS, of Califon, was instantly killed at about 10 o'clock Saturday night when the sled on which he was coasting skidded into a halted car driven by Albert HOOVER, also of Califon. The accident happened on the long, steep grade on the road entering Califon from Pottersville.

HOOVER had seen coasters approaching, and had brought his car to a complete stop, but SHURTS was travelling so fast that when he attempted to turn out to avoid the car, his sled skidded into it sideways. His chest and ribs over his heart were crushed. He was removed to the home of Harvey FLEMING, where coroner D.J. COUGHLIN, of Califon, pronounced the death accidental.

However, State Police investigated the accident and HOOVER was charged with manslaughter. Arraigned before Justice of the Peace George B. WEBSTER in Flemington, he was held under bail of $1,000 to await the action of the Grand Jury.

Harry HANN, another Califon boy, was on another sled in front of SHURTS. When he rounded a corner and saw the car approaching, he steered his sled into the ditch to avoid it, and then turned and shouted to SHURTS to do the same. SHURTS also attempted to turn out to avoid the car, but his sled skidded on the ice and slid into the car at full speed.

The funeral service was held in the home of the victim's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Dellard YAWGER, in Lebanon, yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment was in the Lebanon Methodist Cemetery.

Deceased was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur SHURTS. The family had resided in Califon since November, moving there from Farmersville. The boy was born in Lebanon and while residing there attended Clinton High School. He later attended High Bridge High School for a short time.
