PLEASE NOTE - The following newspaper clippings are from a collection found
after my great Aunt passed away. She unfortunately made no note of what paper
they came from or the date. I felt they may still provide important clues for
somebody and other listers agreed so I have been posting them regardless.

Beating His Wife His Chief Pastime

Harry Kenneth BURD, 23, of the Farmersville section, was arraigned Friday evening before Justice COSS at Annandale on complaint of his wife, Mrs. Dorothy BURD, 19, who charged him with assault and battery and desertion. His wife claimed that he kicked her and put her out the front door. The BURDS have two children, Mary, two months, and Harry Jr., two years old.

BURD admitted "drinking a little hard cider." He pleaded with his wife to drop the charge but she refused in view of the fact that she has been beaten several times before this affair and that is was almost a habit with BURD.

Justice COSS committed BURD to the county jail in default of $1,000 bail, to await the action of the Grand Jury on a charge of assault and battery. COSS took BURD to Flemington in his automobile. The arrest was made by Trooper J.J. HARRIS of the Flemington barracks and Constable Charles STONE of High Bridge.

Saturday morning BURD was released when bail was put up by Elmer APGAR of Califon. BURD served a sentence last year for assaulting his father-in-law.
