PLEASE NOTE - The following newspaper clippings are from a collection found
after my great Aunt passed away. She unfortunately made no note of what paper
they came from or the date. I felt they may still provide important clues for
somebody and other listers agreed so I have been posting them regardless.
A surprise party was tendered Philip FLEMING Saturday night at his home in honor of his sixtieth birthday. Guests were Mrs. Nancy VAN DORN of Vallsburgh, Mr. and Mrs. R.O. TANNAHILL of Irvington, Mr. and Mrs. George APGAR and sons, Levi and George Jr.; Rev. and Mrs. Frank DE PUE. Mr. and Mrs. George HOFFMAN, Mr. and Mrs. Van HOFFMAN, Mrs. Nancy LANCE, Mrs. James CROOT, Miss Marjorie CROOT, Howard SUTTON, Mrs. Gertrude LANCE, Roy LANCE, Mr. and Mrs. L.P. A miscellaneous shower was given Mr. and Mrs. Guy WILSON Friday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip AUBEL by the people of Cokesbury. This was Mr. WILSON's former home. This is the third shower Mr. and Mrs. WILSON have been tendered. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Harry PHILHOWER, Misses Evelyn, Ruth, Helen and Elizabeth Ann PHILHOWER, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. PHILHOWER, Hezekiah PHILHOWER, Mr. and Mrs. Frank COX, Ronald COX, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. FARLEY, Mrs. Carrie SUTTON, Mrs. Grace LAMBERT, Fred, Harvey and Ina SUTTON, Mrs. J.C. HOFFMAN, John and Lenora HACHTMANN, Thomas RILEY, Preston APGAR, Rolland TEETS, Mr. and Mrs. Walter LANCE, Walter LANCE, Jr., Elizabeth LANCE, Mr. and Mrs. Howard SUTTON, Charles and Lester SUTTON, Doris and Alma SUTTON, Harry Sutton Jr., Paul PHILHOWER, Ethel EICK, Mr. HOCKENBURY and friend, Mr. and Mrs. George CROTSLEY and Mr. and Mrs. Phillip AUBEL.
Mr. and Mrs. WILSON received many gifts. Refreshments were served. Paul PHILHOWER and Mr. HOCKENBURY played guitars and sang. Hezekiah PHILHOWER played the piano.
Mrs. Charles W. TODD
Mrs. Ruth A. TODD, forty-eight years old, of Far Hills, died Thursday evening in a Morristown hospital, where she underwent an operation about a week previous. She is survived by her husband, Charles W. TODD, two daughters, the Misses Verna and Alice TODD, at home; her father, John A. LANCE, of Fairmount; three sisters, Mrs. Lenoard [Leonard?] PHILHOWER, of Long Valley, Mrs. Ira LINDABURY, of Middle Valley and Mrs. Bartles ROBINSON, of Fairmount; two brothers, James LANCE, of Fairmount, and Harley LANCE, of Far Hills. She was a member of the Bedminster Reformed Church. Funeral services were held at the late home at Far Hills on Monday afternoon. Interment was made in the Fairmount Presbyterian Cemetery.
