PLEASE NOTE - The following newspaper clippings are from a collection found
after my great Aunt passed away. She unfortunately made no note of what paper
they came from or the date. I felt they may still provide important clues for
somebody and other listers agreed so I have been posting them regardless.
Oldwick Fashion Show Attracts 100
Over 100 persons turned out Friday evening for the second annual Mother-Daughter Banquet held at the local firehouse. Following the banquet there was a fashion show to exhibit latest fashions.
Mrs. Velma SKILLMAN welcomed the guests and the invocation was given by Mrs. Jean TORGERSEN. Acting as Mistress of Ceremonies was Miss Pauline DELAIR. Following the chicken dinner served by the men, the Girl's Chorus sang "The Rock and Roll Waltz".
The presentation of corsages was made by Mrs. Ann EVANS, with the winners as follows: Oldest mother, Mrs. Harriet TRIMMER; youngest mother, Mrs. Carolyn O'DELL, and mother with most children, Mrs. Lillian MacLEOD.
Girl's of the Children's Department of the Methodist Sunday School, which sponsored the affair, entertained next with the hymn, "The Master's Garden", accompanied by Mrs. Helen LaTOURETTE. The toast to mothers was given by Kathy RYMAN, with the return toast given by Mrs. Elizabeth RYMAN.
A solo, "Happy Mother's Day", was sung by Ann WITTWER and a medley of accordian music played by Norman WITTWER Jr.
Attire for the fashion show was through courtesy of "The Glamour Shop", Clinton, and those modeling during the evening were Mrs. Velma SKILLMAN, Mrs. Ann EVANS, Mrs. Eleanor QUINN, Mrs. Ann YAWGER, Mrs. Mardee WITTWER, Mrs. Elizabeth RYMAN, Mrs. Jeanette FARLEY, Mrs. Jane BLAIR and the Misses Ruth BEAVERS, Dorothy IANUZELLI, Judy FARLEY, Sharon COUGHLIN, Peggy NADEAU and Beth BALLANTYNE.

Crash Victim Badly Hurt
Lebanon- Mrs. Ruth APGAR, 59, of Cokesbury Rd., Lebanon RD, was in critical condition today in Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington as a result of a 2-car crash yesterday at 4:50 p.m. at Cokesbury Rd. and Route 22 here.
Mrs. APGAR suffered a fractured skull, a fractured right leg and other injuries.
State Trooper Richard DECKER said Mrs. APGAR, driving south in Cokesbury Rd., crossed the highway and drove in front of the east-bound car driven by Frederick FRITSCHE, 54, a Union Township committeeman, of the Clinton vicinity.
FRITSCHE was not injured
Both cars were badly damaged.
The intersection has been the scene of many crashes and several fatalities in recent months.
Mrs. APGAR was taken to the hospital by the Whitehouse Rescue Squad.
Philip A. PHILHOWER
Califon - Funeral services will be held Saturday for Philip A. PHILHOWER, 87, of Califon RD, a retired farmer who died Tuesday night at the Hunterdon Medical Center, Flemington, where he had been a patient since last Saturday.
Mr. PHILHOWER was the son of the late Aaron and Catherine Auble PHILHOWER. He leaves no immediate survivors.
Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday in Coughlin's Funeral Home here, with the Rev. Leonard H. EVANS, pastor of the Lower Valley and Fairmount Presbyterian Churches, officiating. Interment will be in Fairmount Presbyterian Cemetery.
Oldwick Fireman Elect James APGAR, Daniel COUGHLIN
The Oldwick Fire Company has named the following officers for the ensuing year; President, James APGAR; vice president, Walter FARLEY; secretary, James REED; chief, Daniel COUGHLIN; assistant chief, Michael BROWN; treasurer, John VAN DOREN Jr.; first foreman, Charles A. HILDEBRANT, and second foreman, Pete HAYES.
Francis F. APGAR 3rd
Chester-A funeral service will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the Memorial Presbyterian Church at Dover for Francis Fletcher APGAR 3rd, whose father once operated the Chester House, and who was a descendant of Dutch pioneers.
Mr. APGAR, 69, died Wednesday (Feb. 23, 1956) in Dover General Hospital of complications resulting from heart disease. He was retired in 1954 as an engineer for the New York Fire Insurance Rating Organization, and lived at 30 Orchard St. His wife, Mrs. Pearl Thompson APGAR, died in 1953.
He is survived by a daughter Mrs. John M. McCARTHY of Madison; a sister, Mrs. Maude APGAR of Dover; and three grandchildren.
Cremation will follow the funeral.
