Hi all,
I know that most mail lists have a policy about sellers advertising their
auctions, but I find it really helpful when another list member spots an auction
relevant to our common interests and points it out. I frequently point out
auctions on the "Latta List." We have about 50 branches of our tree (that we
know of), and almost all branches have a representative on the list. A recent
example: There was an eBay auction for a Purple Heart that had belonged to an
"Alexander Latta." So I posted a message asking if this Alexander belonged to
anyone on the list. We determined which branch he was, and one of our
members from that branch won the auction.
I know it's a sticky subject, but I think it should be allowed to mention
auctions, as long as the person mentioning it has no association with the seller,
and the item is directly relevant to the list. I've found some amaaaazing
treasures on eBay and personally would be enormously grateful if my surname mail
lists helped keep an eye out for items with our surname interests!
Just my two cents. Thanks for listening/reading.
Have a great rest o' the week.

I appreciate the posting of this item as it pointed me to an area of
ebay that I did know existed - antique tintype et al photographs. I have
a bunch of family photographs dating from the 1860's including some
Carte de Viste items. I have learned a lot by looking at the items on
sale, including their "value". Bob
