John & Terri.....I was at the Methodist Church cemetery in Asbury,
Warren County, this weekend and remember seeing many headstones for your
McCrea and Henderson families. The cemetery keeper is a very helpful
gent named Houston Smith who lives in the house next to the church. He
told me that the old church records have disappeared over the years and
that only recent burials are mapped. It's a fair sized cemetery, but
the congregation is very small now and, despite Mr. Smith's efforts to
keep the grass trimmed, the cemetery is on a downward slide. Many of
the older headstones have deteriorated to the point where they are hard
to read, although rubbings might help. Still, there are many many
markers in decent shape, some of them McCrea's. Just across the street
is the Asbury Presbyterian cemetery, where more of your surnames can be
found. The Presbyterian church is no longer operating and is now
occupied by a business of some sort. The Presbyterian records are kept
at the Presbyterian Archives in Philadelphia, dating back to only about
1896.

Asbury is a tiny hamlet that can been seen on the north side of the
Musconetcong River, east of Bloomsbury and west of Clinton. You should
order up a copy of "Beers Atlas of Warren County" dated 1874 because it
is filled with loads of detailed maps from that period, including an
extensive listing of merchants and businessmen and their locations. I
believe you can order the Atlas for about $15 from the Clerk at the
Warren County Courthouse in Belvidere, NJ, or the Warren County
Historical Society also in Belvidere.
