Hi Mary Jo,

I am researching a Mathews family of the same period as yours. I'm a
little doubtful that they are the same family, because my Mathews
ancestors appear to have been born in Bucks County, PA, but they have
connections by marriage to both Hunterdon County and Hopewell, Mercer
County. I thought I'd throw out what I had and let you decide if you
think they may be related.

I am descended from both Lucy Mathews, b. about 1786, and Hannah
Mathews, b. about 1794. They were both daughters of Samuel Mathews and
Theodosia Dolin, married 1779 in Newtown, Bucks County, PA. Lucy
married Benjamin Ryan; they lived in Lambertville as early as 1840.
Hannah married Amos Parker in 1815 in Hunterdon County; and they moved
to Hopewell Township from Solebury, Bucks County between 1830 and 1840,
and apparently lived there the rest of their lives. I have some
information that Lucy and Hannah had two sisters, Nancy and Sarah, and a
brother Samuel, but I have not been able to verify this.

I have information about the ancestry of Theodosia Dolin, but none about
Samuel Mathews - he's one of my brick walls!

If you think there might be a connection, let me know, and I'll be glad
to share what I have.
