STRYKKER's "Officers and Men of New Jersey in the Revolutionary War" lists
these individuals
2nd Regiment Hunterdon, Capt Maxwell's Company:
Capt John MAXWELL, Commander (apparently served in Sussex County militia as
a Lieutenant, if I'm reading Strykker's info correctly)
Lt Robert MAXWELL
Pvt Andrew BELLOS (BELLIS)
Pvt Richard CURREN
2nd Regiment Hunterdon, Staff:
Lt. BARTON (fnu) served on the staff of the 2nd Regiment Hunterdon
Could anyone help to answer these questions:
1. Is this the same John MAXWELL whose name is in the Sussex Co. Deed Books
as having deposed witnesses James BISHOP & Robt ALLISON on 28 February 1797.
This was with regard to the December 1796 transfer of land from the heirs of
Isaac SWAYZE of Oxford to the heirs of Joseph LEMON, also of Oxford. This
land was located near the Beaver Brook, presumably in the vicinity of
Swayzes Mills.
2. Was Robert MAXWELL related to his company commander, John?
3. Was Richard CURREN's name mispelled? Was he actually a CURRENT?
4. What was Lt. BARTON's first name?
Does anyone know if STRYKKER's book comes in digital format? It lists
soldier's names in alphabetical order, but I would love to be able to query
his data by military unit level (the book does this for officers, but not
enlisted men.)
Thanks!
