Dear Bellis and Maxwell researchers
My ancestors include both Bellis and Maxwells. My Bellis connection
goes back to one Adam Bellis who married a Dils. They were also
ancestors of the musician/compos John Philip Sousa. I have a record of
several Bellis/Dils marriages in case you are interested. My Maxwell
connection is through one William Maxwell, a farmer in Hunterdon Co.
There were two William Maxwells, all about the same vintage. One
William was a General and confidant under George Washington another
William Maxwell, a lawyer in Hunterdon Co. There were some financial
deals between the Dils and Maxwells. And there apparently was some
connection between the Maxwells and the Kitchen families. They must all
have lived fairly close to each other in Hunterdon Co in the early and
mid to late 1700s. Would very much appreciate any info you may have on
the Dils/Bellis/Kitchen and possibly Dalrymple surnames. Happy to
exchange info with anyone interested. Bob Dils, 27515 Rd U 6, Dolores,
CO 81323. (970) 882-4221

Subject: [NJHUNTER] Rev War: BELLIS/CURREN/MAXWELL/BARTON in 2ndRegiment
Hunterdon

STRYKKER's "Officers and Men of New Jersey in the Revolutionary War"
lists these individuals

2nd Regiment Hunterdon, Capt Maxwell's Company:

Capt John MAXWELL, Commander (apparently served in Sussex County militia
as a Lieutenant, if I'm reading Strykker's info correctly) Lt Robert
MAXWELL Pvt Andrew BELLOS (BELLIS) Pvt Richard CURREN

2nd Regiment Hunterdon, Staff:

Lt. BARTON (fnu) served on the staff of the 2nd Regiment Hunterdon

Could anyone help to answer these questions:

1. Is this the same John MAXWELL whose name is in the Sussex Co. Deed
Books as having deposed witnesses James BISHOP & Robt ALLISON on 28
February 1797. This was with regard to the December 1796 transfer of
land from the heirs of Isaac SWAYZE of Oxford to the heirs of Joseph
LEMON, also of Oxford. This land was located near the Beaver Brook,
presumably in the vicinity of Swayzes Mills. 2. Was Robert MAXWELL
related to his company commander, John? 3. Was Richard CURREN's name
mispelled? Was he actually a CURRENT? 4. What was Lt. BARTON's first
name?

Does anyone know if STRYKKER's book comes in digital format? It lists
soldier's names in alphabetical order, but I would love to be able to
query his data by military unit level (the book does this for officers,
but not enlisted men.)

Thanks!
