Roger,
I believe that she is. She was baptized at the Lamington Presbyterian
Church, and married to Matthias Tharp on 25 February 1824 by Rev. Galpin who
was the minister of that church. My notes on Elizabeth state that it is not
proven that she is the daughter of Thomas and Ann Jobs, but I don't know
when the note was made. Since that time I have plowed through the church
records on microfilm. I believe that the probate document for Thomas Jobs
names her as Elizabeth Tharp or Thorp but I'm not certain since I don't have
a copy of it at hand.
Have you checked with Rick Novak? He probably has the best information
since he is descended from this couple. Contact him at
Here is his last Jobes posting to this list in April 2004:

Hello fellow Jobes!

I'm glad to see some interest in this family. I'd love to hear from any one
interested in them, especially Thomas Jobes of late 18th and early 19th
century Tewksbury TWP (father of the Thomas who married Elisabeth Welsch).

Rick Novak

I have 8 children for the Tharps, including Ann J. Hannah Tharp named for
both mothers of Elizabeth and Matthias, and Thomas J. Tharp named for
Elizabeth's father. Thomas followed William H. Tharp named for the father of
Matthias Tharp. The list of children and their exact birth dates came from
Rick Novak.

Pam
