Susan,
The "Calendar of Wills" is a 13-volume subset of the "Archives of New
Jersey, First Series." A sample full title is "Documents Relating to the
Colonial, Revolutionary and Post-Revolutionary History of the State of New
Jersey / First Series--Volume XLII / Calendar of New Jersey Wills,
Administrations, Etc. Volume XIII - 1814-1817." Despite the title page,
the title on the book's spine is "New Jersey Archives" and "Abstracts of
Wills." The wills are organized by years, but not by month or day. Each
volume has a full-name index, but there is no overall index for all 13
volumes. Without a death date, a researcher has to go to the index of
every volume. Here are the The N.J. Archives, First Series, volume
numbers, the volume number for each "Abstracts of Wills" volume, and the
years covered.
N.J. Archives, First Series, Vol. 23 = Abstracts, Vol. 1, 1670-1730
N.J. Archives, First Series, Vol. 30 = Abstracts, Vol. 2, 1730-1750
N.J. Archives, First Series, Vol. 32 = Abstracts, Vol. 3, 1751-1760
N.J. Archives, First Series, Vol. 33 = Abstracts, Vol. 4, 1761-1770
N.J. Archives, First Series, Vol. 34 = Abstracts, Vol. 5, 1771-1780
N.J. Archives, First Series, Vol. 35 = Abstracts, Vol. 6, 1781-1785
N.J. Archives, First Series, Vol. 36 = Abstracts, Vol. 7, 1786-1790
N.J. Archives, First Series, Vol. 37 = Abstracts, Vol. 8, 1791-1795
N.J. Archives, First Series, Vol. 38 = Abstracts, Vol. 9, 1796-1800
N.J. Archives, First Series, Vol. 39 = Abstracts, Vol. 10, 1801-1805
N.J. Archives, First Series, Vol. 40 = Abstracts, Vol. 11, 1806-1809
N.J. Archives, First Series, Vol. 41 = Abstracts, Vol. 12, 1810-1813
N.J. Archives, First Series, Vol. 42 = Abstracts, Vol. 13, 1814-1817
I see that some used book dealers on the Internet have volumes for sale
and some publishers have digitized a few volumes on CD-ROMs. Our library
has a set of the New Jersey Archives, and I expect many other New Jersey
libraries do too.
