I would like to know if counties have maps of where burial grounds are in their county. Is this the right place to get a map? Those that are abandon or overgrown -- are they on a map somewhere in the county?
The other is, I realize that possibly all states don't keep maps in the same manner. For example, some counties might have maps to all their burial grounds in their county. Possibly the Dept. of Transportation may be the holder of the maps for a particular county.
Can anyone shed any light on this? Sometimes you have an idea where a cemetery might be, but you are not sure. Can you go somewhere and find out exactly where it is, at least, so you can get to it, even if you have to walk across a field or get permission to see it on private property? I wonder if the county courthouse might be a good place to start -- as a "rule of thumb" if you don't really know where to start.
I know that the "Hunterdon County Historical Society" can tell you where the Opdyke Cemetery in Headquarters is located. It is on private property and you have to ask permission to see it. So this may be another place that can tell you where cemeteries are located.
