Hello Chris,

Thanks for this feedback...it tracks with what I was thinking: Nellie comes
back to NJ after her husband's death.

I too have been curious whether bodies were transported back to hometowns
from distant frontier lands for burial. If anyone out there has examples of
this having been done, please reply back. From a monetary, logistical, and
organic point of view, it doesn't seem feasible. But if indeed such
transport occurred, this would be a helpful piece of genealogical knowledge.

In addition to the SAR's burial info, a BELLES correspondent of mine
forwarded this link to me the other day. It states that Southington, OH,
was originally called Bellestown, named after John BELLES:
http://southington.k12.oh.us/school~1/school/chshistory/history.htm

I presume this was the John BELLES who was married to Nellie WILLIAMSON
because I have no other eligible BELLES/BELLESFELT candidates.

Take care,

Roz Bellis

Roz,

I don't have the actual date of death for Nelly (Williamson) Bellis but in
the Hunterdon County Democrat extracts found on Dennis Sutton's website <
http://njsuttonfamily.org/Newspaper/paperhistory.htm>; is the following.
April 1, 1840 Vol. 2 No. 33
"Died on Monday last, in Rariton Township, Mrs. Nelly Bellis,
widow of John Bellis, Sen. aged 86 years"
Did she move back to NJ after John's death, maybe to live with one of the
children? She's probably buried somewhere in Hunterdon County, I don't see
them
transporting
a body back to Ohio in those times.
