This won't go very far in shedding light upon your question, but Daniel Bray
, a son of James Bray, was my ancestor, Andrew Bray,'s nephew. Daniel
married a Woolverton, and other Bray family members married into the
Rittenhouse family. I have checked through my notes but haven't found
anything on Isaac Rittenhouse.
I certainly would go along with your speculation that he could have gone to
Ohio, had the deed recorded as a precaution and then even may have returned
to New Jersey.
Have you seen Traditions of Hunterdon (Early History and Legends of
Hunterdon,NJ) by John LeQuear (Edited and Published by D.H. Moreau,
Flemington,NJ 1957) ? Along with being entertaining, it contains a lot of
material on early families in Hunterdon County, a lot of it firsthand from
Mr. Lequear .However, there's nothing on the Hunzinger family. But, on page
149,there is this : Adam Bellis Jr. married Mary Rockafellow who lived with
her brother Jacob on the old Rockafellow farm, where Gershom Sergeant now
lives. William, who took the homestead, married Mary Housel; John married
Nelly Williamson and Andrew married Lizzie Servis from Amwell. The old
Williamson homestead was near the Dutch Church at Larison's Corner. Then, on
the page prior, there is a history of your Bellis family from about 1740.
Have you seen it? If not, let me know-and I'll send it.Melva Calaman----
