I've been at this so long I've come down with "Sometimer's" - some times I
remember to whom I've written and sometimes I don't.
SO; HANS PETER LANTZ also known as JOHN PETER LANTZ, his son:
John PAUL LANTZ father of
ANTHONY LANTZ husband of MARY Unknown, his son
JOHN LANCE ( LANTZ ) husband of Nancy Unknown and
his son WILLIAM and William's wife CHARLOTTE BROWN
JOHN PAUL LANTZ who was born April 10, 1733 in Winsberg or Windsberg or
Windsperg in what is now Germany. John Paul came to America with his father HANS
PETER LANTZ, born 1706 in or near Winsberg and married to Anna Maria Wick in
1726 was also known as John Peter LANTZ) in 1738. We have at lest some of the
children of HANS PETER L:ANTZ, but know little more much about what happened
to HANS PETER, husband of ANNA MARIA WICK, after he arrived in 1738. other
then the reports of his death and burial in 1789 in Carnarvon Township,
Lancaster Co. PA.Confirmation of his date of death and place of burial would be a
significant find
We know John Paul married ANNA MARGARET Unknown about 1749 and that he may
have passed in 1771. To my knowledge John Paul's date of death has never been
confrimed and there appears some confusion if the 1771 date of death was his
or another family member As in his father, confirmation of his date of death
and place of burial would be a significant find.
We do know that John Paul LANTZ had at least five sons and one daughter and
that it is said he is buried in Lebanon Township, Warren County NJ. One of
these sons was ANTHONY LANTZ husband of MARY Unknown.
Anthony and Mary have only two children of records, though surely there must
be more. My buest guess is that Anthony was born between 1750 and 1759 and
he died between 1835 and 1838. Ths one son I know of, JOHN LANCE was born in
or near WALNUT VALLY October 07, 1780 so the family was living in Walnut
Valley as early as 1780 and likely earlier. I think Antyony's wife, MARY Unknown,
was born about 1755 but it's only a guess.
Finding more about ANTHONY, husband of MARY would be unlock a major road
black . I'm looking for an as exact date of death as possible, any other
children then the two boys I know of, and what happened to MARY. Where could they be
buried?
Anthony's first son, or I think his first son was JOHN LANCE, though there
was a JACOB LANTZ or LANCE but so far I've only found circumstancial evidence
on the JACOB LANTZ - LANCE men to place as Anthony's son.
John married NANCY who was born about 1793, died in 1851, and the couple
raised at least four girls and four boys. John was a good businessman and a
properous farmer in Walnut Valley and nearby Blairstown and when he died in Dec
of 1856 he left a good estate to his children. JOHN LANCE is buried in
Hainsburg Cemetery where is his marker lists him as "A Soldier of the War of 1812".
Nancy may be there too but so far I've not found her.
I think WILLIAM LANCE may have been John's eldest son but so far I've not
found absolute proof of this nor that the WILLIAM LANCE which I believe born
about 1817 and who married Charlotte BROWN is the same WILLIAM as the son of
JOHN and NANCY. Still there seems little doubt as I have found no other record
of any other WILLIIAM in or near BLAIRSTOWN.
I've pretty much tacked down that WILLIAM LANCE, born about 1817 son of JOHN
LANCE also probably seen as LANTZ earlier in his lifetime, is my WILLIAM
LANCE who was the husband of CHARLOTE BROWN.
Charlotte was born in 1835, daughter of Isaac V. Brown and his wife Ann. My
best guess is that Charlotte, sometimes seen as Sharlot, married William
close to the date of the first born child I know of which was March 1852. Doing
the math we find that Charlotte was married young and that William was no
child at the time.
William was left some property after his father's death in 1856 but it looks
like things did not go well for him. He attempted to make a living as a
basket maker and as a shoemaker, but Charlotte died young sometime between the
birth of the last (6th) child I know of in 1866 and the Federal Census of 1870
where William is listed as a "widower".
I don't know what happened to Charlotte, her exact dod, place of burial nior
what happened to William after 1870. I do know Williams' first grandson was
born October 1874 in Scranton but so far I've not been able to trace William
further.
Any assiastance would be very much appreciated.
Thank you.
