Dear Joan,
Me again. I got to thinking that organizations like the DAR and the SAR
and other such organizations where one must prove their lineage to join
might be interested in joining you in the fight to preserve our access to VR.
I think you should contact the state chairman of these
organziations---maybe even the national ones.
As one who is considering membership in the DAR, I know how stringent
their requirements are and how important it is to be able to get the proper
records.
Other things are acceptable in time periods where there were no VR, but
the VR are the preferred option.
Now I promise that I am out of ideas and I won't bother you again.
Except to say that yesterday, I had occasion to be thankful that death
records are available , since my son who is turning forty this year, wants to
have a colonoscopy done. His father had malignant polyps (early colon cancer)
and his brother had polyps (benign) before the age of 40. Naturally he is
concerned.
However, my son's insurance won't pay for a baseline colonoscopy until
the age of 50, unless you can prove that there is a high medical risk that
you will have colon cancer.
I was able to provide him with a little medical genealogy chart that
shows the number of people in the last three generations on both sides of our
family that died of colon cancer---more than enough to convince anyone that the
risk is high. And I have most of the death certificates to prove it.
