Hi Jennifer,

Your Johnstons sound like kin to Samuel Johnston (1706-1785) a native of
Edinboro, Scotland and an early Judge in Hunterdon County. Samuel was
married to a Mary Crozier and may have had as many as eight children
including a son named Samuel who was born in c1748. I believe that I am a
descendant of the elder Samuel and Mary via their son David (1746-1815) who
was married to a Margaret Nixon whose family may have been from Ireland.
Another son, Philip, died in the Battle of Long Island at the beginning of
the Revolutionary War.

It sounds like you have a real treasure and I concur with the
recommendations to donate it to the Hunterdon County Historical Society.

Rick Novak
