Hi Bud,
I don't have anything on Mahlon Johnston born in Anthony in 1802, but
there was a Mahlon Johnson who was born June 12, 1791, son of Jacob Johnson
(1754-1846) and Sarah Garrison (1752-1853) of East Amwell. This Mahlon
Johnson married Mary Evans 23 August 1823 (by Justice of the Peace Clifford
according to Deats). They had several children including infants who were
buried with Mahlon & Mary at Grandin Cemetery across from the Bethlehem
Presbyterian Church on Race Street. One daughter who reached maturity was
Sarah E. Johnson. She married William Apgar in February 1851 then sadly died
in December the same year. William Apgar died 5 years later (1856) at the
age of 26.
If you are still interested in this Mahlon's parents then they are one
of Hunterdon's most illustrious couples. Jacob fought in the Revolution and
after his marriage to Sarah Garrison and the maturity of most of their
children, moved the entire family from East Amwell to Hamden, Union
Township, and joined the Bethlehem church community, dying at age 92. His
wife produced 11 surviving children and died at age 101. Both are buried in
Grandin Cemetery along with numerous children, grand-children, and
great-grandchildren. Fred Sisser created a notebook of information on
Hunterdon Co. Revolutionary War soldiers which can be viewed at the
Hunterdon Co Historical Soc library in Flemington and Jacob is featured. But
if you are looking for a Johnston and not a Johnson connection, then "this
ain't them" as the saying goes and I apologize.
Pam
