Thank you for the information that has been provided. I too believe my
Mahlon Johnston is a descendant of Jacob and Sarah. However, based on the 1840
Census of Bethlehem, Hunterdon County, I believe he is Jacob's grandson and
not his son, who was also named Mahlon. I believe he is the son of Jacob Jr.,
who was born 3/17/1783. In that census, my Mahlon is listed as being between
35 and 40 years old and living next door to Jacob, age 55 to 60 and a male,
age 80 to 90.
The 1841 Revolutionary Pensioners Census, lists the elder Jacob Johnston age
87, living with his son Jacob S. Johnston in Bethlehem, Hunterdon County.
I believe the elder Jacob Johnston is the same person listed as one of the
bondsmen on the Marriage Bond of Obadiah Evans and Sarah Coleman in 1772.
Obadiah was the grandfather of Mahlon's wife, Mary Evans.
