Claudia- you have raised an important question or I have and you have too!
My family research says that the branch of Cossarts/Corzetts/Cosad/ that
Mary the painted descends from is the family of Progenitor Jacques Cossart
of New York, a treasurer of the City and a Hugenot who came over abt 1664.
See the genealogy as I cannot recite the details accurately. The family went
to Bound Brook area of NJ with Francis to John. David went to Pa and at the
time of the Rev he was involved in the Committes of Correspondance. etc etc.
I am desc. from John to Richard to Mary(Marie) who married Christopher
Lefler on March 14, 1812. Bob Lefler ( As I said I ran into opposition on
some of what I said but I really believe that the research done my ancester
Grayce Harper Alsterda, a State Historian of Illinois in her time, is
accurate and Correct. I have seen the Cosat statue at the Rairoad museum
outside of or East of York. It just makes sense that those Railroad towns
in SC, on the border with NC would be named for him, etc. What do you think?
Bob
