Hi Listers,
Since our last posting, we have had a wonderful response from a number
of readers who have sent large contributions in the form of
photocopies of whole sections from directories.
In one case, a lister has loaned us a microfiche to copy and in
another, provided a whole listing in database format which we were
able to import in about 3 minutes! For all of thses we are very
grateful.
Although the database is now upto 180,000+ entries, this does not
really indicate the current position because, frankly, we have got a
little behind but hope that a blitz over the Easter weekend will allow
us to catch up a little.
Here are the Top 10 counties at present:
Kent25992
Surrey 7898
Yorkshire 5676 (A vast improvement!)
Essex 5576
Derbyshire 4154
Gloucestershire 3926
Sussex 3586
Hertfordshire 3514
Middlesex 3006
Norfolk 2788
If you have information relating to the licensee, tenant or owner of
any Pub, Inn, Tavern, Hotel or Coffee House, anywhere in England
between 1801 and 1900, please send the details to us.
In 1900 there were estimated to be 60,000 pubs in the whole of England
so you can see that our total covering 100 years works out at an
average 1730 entries per year. The more information we get, the better
the chances of finding that elusive ancestor or finding out when he
was where he was ...
Thanks to all those who have already responded and thanks to all of
you who will now do so ...
