Hello:

I have a note that in 1665 Black Death was again in the fens but I didn't
want to put it on the mailing list until I checked it out.

When I was working in a San Francisco Hospital nights in the 60s, I was
doing diets and visiting people in their rooms all over the hospital. I
found out when I was checking their records, just to see if everything the
doctors ordered had been done, that 30 of these people were in for bubonic
plague (it was controlled enough so that they were no longer in reverse
isolation) - which is endemic to California - the ground squirrels have it
among other critters. I was shocked and asked my mother who was a nursing
supervisor if I was going to come down with the plague (I think I had just
read FOREVER AMBER). She told me it was very common for people to come down
with bubonic plague in small outbreaks here, like tularemia, but it is
controllable and doesn't get out of hand. It may have been in Europe in
remission for generations and only came out when physical circumstances
were right, like an overpopulation of rabbits or some other animals.
Nature's way, as they say.

And on that note about rabbits, Happy Easter -
Carol
