Hi Everyone,
How's this for a coincidence!
I'm a Norfolk girl, born in Norwich but bred in Holt until the age of 14
when my family moved to NZ (30+ years ago). My partner is pure bred
American born in Washington state but lived in Idaho until nearly 20
years ago. His ancestors are in most lines early settlers from the 16th
- 17th century from England, Ireland and Germany. I was lucky to find an
ancestral file on his maternal grandmother who was a society girl from
Chicago one Dorothy Lord BLATCHFORD. Tracing back her line I was
literally gobsmacked (to quote a current phrase - which here is quite
relevant) to see that a 11 x gt grandfather was one John WHITMAN born in
Holt, Norfolk in 1598. It looks like John Whitman was one of the hardy
souls who ventured to the Americas in the early - mid 1600's.The file
also stated that his father was Zachariah.
Does anyone by any chance have any records of WHITMAN's in Holt from
that early time?
