Hello, All -
My name is Anne (SYMONDS) Hotchkiss. I am descended from John SYMONDS,
purportedly b. abt. 1595, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England who
emigrated to
America about 1636. My husband and I have several questions, and
hope someone
on this list can help. As we are not members of the list, please reply
directly.
1. John's wives:
Can it be shown, possibly from records of St. Nicholas Church,
Great Yarmouth,
that John's first wife was Ruth FOX? Are her b. and d. dates
known? Who were
her parents, and what is known about them? Is their marriage date
known? Has
the surname of his second wife, Elizabeth (---) ever been
determined, and is
any more known about her (birth, marriage, death dates)?
2. John's parents:
What is known of the parents of John? Are they John (b.?, d. 1624,
of Great
Yarmouth, Norfolk) and Mary (---), (b. ?, d. 5 April 1612)? What
else is known
about them?
3. John's ancestors:
Horatio F. Brown's "Biography of John Addington Symonds" (1895)
suggests a link
from John SYMONDS, d. 1624 to Peter SIMONDS of Great Yarmouth,
elder son of
Adam Simonds of Suffield (d. 1322). Can this be proven? According
to Dr.
Bentley, rector of St. Nicholas, John had expected to inherit lands
in Norwich.
Whose lands might these have been? Is additional information
available about
John and his ancestry?
We will be very appreciative for any help on this family, and will
be happy to
share information on descendants in the U.S. We are visitors to
the List, so
will not see a reply to the List. Please reply directly (and copy
the List if
you wish) to:
Thank you,
Stu & Anne Hotchkiss (Williamson, Wayne co., New York, US)
