Hello Linda,

This is a verrryyy long shot...

Would you possibly be able to look up the name "FLAK"?

I have no dates or times, just "Flakstad" and "Lofoten Islands", which I
understand are in Nordland.

If such a general search is too much of your time (I appreciate you are
doing these lookups out of
a willingness to help) could you tell me which library it comes from so 'I
can file it for future reference?
Thank you,

Regards,
Christopher J Flak :-)

Hi!

Yes, "Slægten Benkestok" is a very good book indeed! The Benkestok family
was one of Norway's "nobility" families. As I understand it, the Benkestok
name was given to a man, perhaps he was just a servent, I don't remember,
who saved the life of a true noble here in the country by hiding with him
inside a log when some ursurpers were out to take the life of this noble
man (perhaps he was even a king...long time since I heard the story).
Well, this servant ended up saving the life of the man and was given the
name "Benkestok" and was made an honorary member of the nobility. The
Benkestock name is a derivation of his origina name plus "stok" on the
end..."stokk" means "log".

Many people with their roots from North Norway especially....Nordland...are
certain to find one or more of their ancestors in this book...

Just a little piece of info... If anyone else out there knows the whole
story, or if I've made any errors, please feel free to correct my version.
As I said, it's been a number of years since I heard the story.
