Mary,
Like you I have had trouble figuring out some of the Norwegian names.
In most cases I was hearing from one of a married couple, and
fortunately the other had a name that I knew. A few did leave me
stumped however. It was interesting to me that in 1996 when I was in
Norway and meeting some of my relatives, one of them said to me, "we
have so much trouble with your American names, figuring out if they
are boys or girls!" We all had a good laugh over the shared problem
that neither of us was aware the other was having.
