Sorry Elin ,I spoke in jest. You shouldn't change anything.
I have always been amazed how Norwegian' the lanuage' is alive and
evolving. Some countries fight to avoid new words unless they can be
described in their own words.
I think we want to understand and sometimes we try to explain things using
our own English words and that as we have heard can be difficult.
I only wish my parents had taught us Norwegian. But as you heard most took
the approach that if you were to be a Canadian ,as I am , you must speak
English. I am not sure why it had to be exclusive.
My Mom learned to read English with my oldest brother by reading the
newspaper with him as he learned to read.
When you study your heritage from a distance the undertanding eventually
comes. My main problem with the language has from the beginning been
pronunciation and lack of use. If only my parents had taught us the alphabet
and the sounds? We called our daughter Joanne and Jojo for short. My Mom
called her Yoyo. When my wife pointed this out I wasn't aware of it . I
translated Yoyo into Jojo with out knowing it. So what does that tell you?.
