Dear Thea:
You don't mention whether your family comes from the Stavanger area, or if
the rest of your visit is going to be to Oslo or Trondheim or Bergen or. . .
If you have to travel all the way across the country and are really not
interested and don't need information from the Emigration Museum. . . it may
not be what you need to do.
On the other hand, Stavanger is a beautiful city, with lots of museums,
churches, historic sites, great restaurants, and all kinds of activities.
For me, one of the big attractions was the Sjofarts Museums, where I saw a
replica of the boat my mother emigrated on. The Emigration Museum is closed
on Sundays, by the way, as are many stores. From Stavanger you can go by
boat to such wonderful places as Haugesund or up to Bergen, up the
Lysefjord.
Whether you should go there really depends on how much time you have and
where else you're going.
Hilsen,
Anne Marie
