>>Hi Listers,
Remember, were still having our holiday party, til Monday. Take advantage
of it, by posting your favorite story, poem, rememberance, or what ever you
like.<<
Sounds fun, thanks! My favorite CHRISTMAS remembrances are:
Going to Grandma's house where her house was filled with heavenly aromas of
her baking--my favorites were the buttered brown sugar cinnamon rolls,
bokkles, and Yule Kaka-yum, yum, yum! :) My aunt made scrumptious fudge!
Sitting under the Christmas tree at night when I was a little girl with the
room rather dark except for the brilliance of the Christmas lights on the
tree. Then I would hunt for packages with my name on them that my mom put
there (Daddy usually waited 'til we were asleep Christmas Eve to sneak his
in, but his were often the biggies like a bike!). I would shake and examine
the ones from my mom trying to guess what they were, and I well knew that our
exchange of gifts were in joyous celebration of God's greatest gift to
us--His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ which heightened my delight! :)
The several nights of anticipation and church activities including being
given brown paper sacks at church filled with nuts, an apple, an orange, a
candy cane, and some Christmas candies were deliciously exciting and
wonderful! The church plays were and still are lots of fun! I loved being in
them then, and I love watching the cute little children in their sweet
costumes now! :) Of course I'll always love singing Christmas carols!
The thrill of going to see many Christmas decorations--houses decorated and
lit up with multi-colored lights, etc.!
The cozy and welled up joyous feeling I had when I saw tears of joy trickle
down my daddy's face as we listened to a choir of 500 young people from all
over Florida sing the Hallelujah Chorus at EPCOT CENTER in DISNEY WORLD.I
felt a
very happy warmth and floating sensation when a famous movie star recited
this there:
"Two thousand years ago there was a man born contrary to the laws of nature.
This man lived in poverty and was reared in obscurity.
He did not travel extensively. Only once did he cross the boundary of the
country in which he lived. And that was during his exile in childhood to
Egypt.
He possessed neither wealth nor influence. His relatives were inconspicuous
and had neither training nor formal education.
In infancy he startled a king. In childhood he amazed Jewish leaders. In
manhood he ruled the course of nature, walking upon the billows as if
pavement. He hushed the sea to sleep.
He healed multitudes without medicine and made no charge for his service.
He never wrote a book and yet all the libraries of the country could not hold
the books that have been written about him.He never wrote a song, and yet he
has furnished the theme for more songs than all the songwriters combined.
He never founded a college, but all the schools put together cannot boast of
having as many students.
He never practiced psychiatry and yet he has healed more broken hearts than
all the doctors far and near.
Names of great scientists, philosophers, and theologians have come and gone,
but the name of this man abounds more and more.
Herod the Great could not destroy him and the grave could not hold him. His
name stands highest of heavenly glory, acknowledged by angels and feared by
devils.
I am far within the mark when I say that all the armies that ever marched,
and all the navies that ever were built, and all the parliaments that ever
sat, all the kings that ever reigned, put together, have not affected the
life of man upon this earth as powerfully as has that One Solitary Life."
Credited to Dr. James Allan Francis, One Solitary Life, (1963)
This and MUCH MORE is what CHRISTmas means to me! :)
Love,
Trudy Elise
P.S. By the way I found a really nice site on the web with music and really
