Dear List
Christmas time has always been my favorite holiday. Growing up with my
Father being 100% Norwegian, and my Mothers Step father being 100%
Norwegian, we had lots of Norwegian traditions at christmas time. From
the baking to watching and learning how to make Lefsa from my Grandpa.
Yet one of the christmas's that stand out in my life is one that I
would only remember as the best afterwards. It was when I was 16 and it
would be the last christmas I would have my father with us. He was
killed in an accident 6 months later. It wasn't until I was older that
the memories of that christmas took hold. He had my younger brother and
sister and I, sing christmas carols while he video'd us. Which non of
us could carry a tune at the time. You don't think at the time that
this will be the last christmas you have with them and it has made me
cherish and make every christmas with my children more special. My dad
always went all out on the holidays. From decorating the outside of the
house (Even to the point of winning a contest one year for the most
decorated house). To taking us out for drives all over town to see
everyone else's decorated house. It was always important to him for us
to attend Church on christmas eve, and to have his plate full of
Lutefisk. Although it has been 19 years since he has been gone. His
memory still lives on during christmas. It made my family cherish
everyday with the ones you love.
