I have enjoyed hearing all the wonderful and some sad memories of Christmas
on this list.
I wanted to share some of mine. When I was young we always had our lutefisk
and lefsa and would play Christmas records. (that dates back awhile) We
would have a church and school concert fairly close to Christmas. It was a
thrilling time for me. Since then I have kept most of the traditions that
my parents passed down to me. They are both gone but their memories are here
and will be forever. I lost my husband in 1998 and since then I still kept
the old traditions but added a few new ones. My children and myself all
light one large candle with our smaller ones and it burns all during the
meal and gifts, etc. The first year he died I asked my children for no
gifts for myself. There is a poem I put on the mantlepiece, at Christmas,
under all my husband's pictures which is called, "Spending Christmas With
Jesus Christ This Year". It is a beautiful poem and so fitting after the
death of my husband. There are still the church and school concerts (now
for my granddaughters) and even though Christmas is a bit sadder at times I
still enjoy the traditions to pass down to my children and grandchildren.
